Summertime is a time of fetes and celebrations in this region of southwest France. June's highlight is the Fer de Saint Jean with bonfires lit in village squares and dancing into the night. From the end of July to early August the famed Pablo Cassals concert series brings musicans from all over the world to perform in historic landmarks. There's more music in August during the Festival de Roja, with concerts in parks and in medieval churches, along with food festivities. Fall brings apple and chestnut festivals, cultural and gastronomic events including evening markets.
